WISHING

Strange coats hats on the shelf
I sit alone nobody else
Actors above me words in a play
ricochet off the walls and then they run away
All the lights are working
the shadows cannot hide
but I'm feeling isolated so unsatisfied
The silence that surrounds me
filled with debris
echoes through my head so effortlessly
I watch the digital number change
as they shift on my phone
I hear the line I hear every night
which means soon I'll be going home
I pass out the strange coats
and hats on the shelf
sometimes they put a dollar in my cup
but I can wish for something else
And I wish for you
don't you want me to?
Cos you're the only one
that sees me through
the only one that sees me through
Now all the people have filed and gone
buttoned up their coats, put their hats on
but I don't pay attention now
to the shadows or silence
and you can look for me hard
but you won't see where I went
Vanished into darkness like teardrops in rain
out into the night
where I can be myself again
And I wish for you
don't you want me to?
Cos you're the only one
that sees me through
the only one that sees me through
