The Bellringer
The Bellringer
(Tim Stafford, Barry Ricks)

V1) Lonely bell ringing, stars in the night
while I was out walking to see all the lights
That familiar sound tolling, so steady and slow
His smile never faded in spite of the cold

V2) His coat was all tattered from winters long passed
And he stood by his kettle as he set to his task
And I wondered about him, where he called home
God knows it’s hard spending Christmas alone

CH) Where do you go when
The bells have stopped ringing? The angels are singing as the bitter winds blow
What do you do when
The stores are all closing, they turn off the lights and there’s nowhere to go?

V1) He makes his way to the bones of a building
with an armful of groceries, same Christmas smile
And for once in his world, no one will go hungry
And there’s room at the Inn, at least for tonight

Br) He gave all he had, He fought the good fight
he slipped away quietly that silent night

CH) Where do you go when
The bells have stopped ringing? The angels are singing as the bitter winds blow
It’s Christmas night
The stores are all closed, turn off the lights, you’re already home (it’s time to go home)
