Christmas at the Tavern
That little town I grew up in was half my family
On my mama's side, it was the size of an Army company
When we had a party or gathering there wasn't anywhere to sit
No house or shed was big enough for everyone to fit
In the summertime, when it was nice, we partied in the yard
But if it was cold or if it rained, there was no where to play cards
As luck would have it a cousin owned the only bar in town
One winter night at Christmas time, we all headed down
We had Christmas at the tavern and the whole family was there
We shot darts and pool and had a few shots of good cheer
There was country music on the jukebox and a buzz in the air
Merry Christmas from the tavern, it was our favorite time of year
When we walked in the door, we all heard "Hey, we're glad you're here"
You didn't have to ask, you were handed a glass of punch or ice cold beer
With all the cooks in the family we should've won an award
And we might have if they could've tried all the food on the shuffleboard
There was a tree in the corner and lights were strung all along the bar
When it was time Uncle Jerry would sneak out to the car
For the kids, Santa brought candy in his sack
And for the parents there was Miller Lite and shots of Jim and Jack
And we had Christmas at the tavern and the whole family was there
We shot darts and pool and had a few shots of good cheer
There was country music on the jukebox and a buzz in the air
Merry Christmas from the tavern, it was our favorite time of year
