Grandpa worked for the L&N
He lived in Hazard way back then
Granny came from down the road
from Letcher County where the river flows
THEY GOT MARRIED HAD A BUNCH OF KIDS
RAISED SOME HOGS AND THEY HAD SOME HENS
they carved a life up in those hills
Survived the wars and they paid their bills
They lived back in the mountains
in a time when times were bad
They never knew that they were poor
got by with what they had
Grandpa got sick and he passed away
Kids grew up and they moved away
Some went north while others stayed
They are still some there to this day.
