Biography
Two guitars, two voices.
Quiet, intimate, raw and powerful, producing a new strain of acoustic music, distilling Americana through the filter of distinctly Australian life.
Robyn Chalklen & Chris Parkinson (The Yearlings) hail from the coastal town of Maslin Beach in South Australia.
With Parkinson's signature guitar tones and Chalklen's hypnotic prose, The Yearlings express the lyrical truth of storylines about real life that poetically tug at the heartstrings.
The duo have made numerous festival appearances at home and abroad, including playing shows across Europe and the USA, including a career highlight performance at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
Their latest album 'LUCK' follows on from their 5 previous studio albums and has garnered serious accolades in Australia, including being awarded "ROOTS ALBUM OF THE YEAR 2023" by the Adelaide Blues & Roots Association. This album displays the nuanced mixing wizardry of Chris Shaw (Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow etc.) in Austin, Texas.
Reviewers have captured the essence of their music describing it as "unhurried, breathing, spacious and warm" (Marty Jones, Rhythms Magazine), "There is an almost indescribable musical lexicon that surrounds a Yearlings' performance, and it is one that can barely be described, it must be seen and heard for oneself."
