Biography
Welcome to the world of The Tonepoets. We are an original four-piece band based in the North Midlands and originating from various parts of the North West / Potteries areas in 2005. Having met at music college, the band formed an original line up but now have a new bass player.

Hailing from different areas, with differing backgrounds and varied age groups, it is no surprise that The Tonepoets have many and diverse inspirations with which to work. It is difficult to describe our sound as our many tunes are so very different to each other. We find that this variation works well and suits all our needs as a band, as well as, most importantly, the needs of our audiences, especially the new and impartial one’s.

Having played many gigs in Manchester, London and the north midlands, we ventured into Germany this spring, where we played 2 gigs and now have a weeks tour lined up there this autumn. This summer is shaping up well with many gigs being played throughout. We are playing “The Welly Fest” at a rural location in August – a mini Glastonbury!

Our radio play includes BBC Radio Shropshire’s “Friday Night Gerbil” where we have had numerous plays and also a live 4 song session in March this year. Amongst the comments were:-

“Rarely do we have a band in the studio, playing live, who sound as good as their cd’s do. The Tonepoets are brilliant.” – BBC sound engineer.

“Not only was their music fantastic but they really were the nicest bunch of lads to speak to” – Josh Withers BBC Radio Shropshire’s Friday Night Gerbil.

We have featured on BBC Radio Stoke’s Subculture and are regularly played on Moorlands FM.

We would class ourselves, if pushed, as Indie Rock Alternative, because our music is probably dominated by these styles in particular. We can play electrically or acoustically, depending upon the mood/atmosphere of our venues. Our material is totally original. Our music genre is changing all the time and we consider that it is totally unique – that is – the genre is “The Tonepoets!”

All songs are written by Marc Wilson and James Hawkyard. James is the lead singer/ accompanying guitarist. Marc is lead guitarist/backing vocals. Between them they produce the sound which is the Tonepoets, writing music and lyrics between them. This process is not regimented; it can also contain input and additions by Chris Allen and Ashley Clay, the third and fourth members of the band representing bass and drums/percussion respectively.

Hope it’s been educational and inspirational! It has certainly been emotional. Take a good betting tip and get us booked up or buy our music. Never a let down. Always a privilege. Probably the best thing for music since The Beatles!

"Radio Creds" are votes awarded to artists by radio programmers who have downloaded their music and have been impressed with the artist's professionalism and the audience's response to the new music. Creds help artists advance through the AirPlay Direct community.

Only radio accounts may add a Radio Cred. One week after the track has been downloaded the radio account member will receive an email requesting a Cred for each artist they've downloaded.
