Biography

The Original Snakeskins combine fine musicianship and soaring three-part harmonies to present a unique style that sits somewhere between country, folk and bluegrass. Anne Unger's emotion-filled and impassioned vocals are complemented by the beautiful harmonies and dynamic playing of the band. Aided by a soulful blend of traditional instrumentation - guitar, mandolin, dobro, banjo, harmonica, double bass - the band deliver toe-tapping tunes with good humour.

The band was created by a group of friends and long time musical associates who share a love for classic Country music. Tipping the hat towards the greats of the 40’s, 50’s and 60's (Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Bill Monroe) but hell-bent on making the music their own , they create real Country music , delivering songs from the heart, reaching out to the audience, entertaining and engaging.

In 2011 the Snakeskins are celebrating ten years of making music together . The fourth album "Along for the ride" was launched in April 2011.The album is a rich musical exploration of textures and moods, a journey through contemporary and traditional Country music styles. A musical landscape ripe with vocal harmony, crisp acoustic instrumentation and warm bass tones. Classic Country sounds reborn and delivered with heart and soul.

Along for the ride follows the success of previous release We got Trouble which received a total of 5 award nominations at the 2007 Victorian and National Country Music Awards including Best Female Vocalist and Best New Release.

Band highlights include appearances at Country, Bluegrass and Roots Music Festivals throughout the State and beyond, including: Harrietville, Boolarra, Mt Beauty, Whittlesea and Wandong . In 2009 the band performed at the Port Fairy Folk Festival and 2010 Apollo Bay Music Festival.

Over the years the The Original Snakeskins have honed their song craft and live performance to include raw emotion, dazzling playing, hip shaking, toe tapping and string bending . They celebrate the raw honesty and appeal of roots music and put the soul back into Country.
