Biography
The initial evolution of The Jack started in October 2003, when Clark Preston, John Clelland, and Dave Leslie began working on song ideas. These three experienced musicians had played both original songs and covers in various rock bands for many years. Another seasoned player, Gordon Ramsay joined The Jack in May 2004 to complete this exciting new band and the debut self-financed CD was recorded in October of the same year. This release received widespread critical acclaim, launching the band on the live circuit and helping to focus the musical direction of The Jack. Now with the band’s current line up, featuring Stuart Fairley on bass guitar, The Jack have just completed their second self-financed album, Tears Of Perception, recorded at Chamber Studio in Edinburgh. The Jack's songwriting talent is derived from a wide range of individual influences, honouring each decade’s essential rock artists. The result is a unique but familiar sound.
During The Jack's first 3 years of existence, the following achievements and highlights should be noted:
• Over 50 powerful live performances at venues throughout Scotland including regular monthly gigs for the last two years at the renowned and well respected Edinburgh music venue Whistlebinkies.
• Airplay on the following radio stations: 96.3 Rock Radio, ARFM Radio, Radio Borders, Rock 247 Online, XFM Scotland, and Pulse Rated.
• Selected as local support act to open for acclaimed US ‘80s rock outfit Vain at the Cathouse in Glasgow in November 2006.
• Selected as local support act to open for the Ray Wilson Band (Stiltskin, ex- Genesis) at the Carling Yard, Fife in June 2007.
• Review of the Tears Of Perception album in the June 2007 issue of Classic Rock magazine and the May 2007 issue of Fireworks magazine.
