One of the most soulful and blues-influenced singers in bluegrass, Del McCoury is a multiple IBMA award winner and the 2011 IBMA Hall of Fame inductee. Blue Side of Town was the 1992 debut recording of the band he formed with his sons Ronnie on mandolin and Rob on banjo. There’s a blue tinge in this program of perfectly chosen songs, partly attributable to the influence of producer Ken Irwin. Included are Del’s interpretations of Steve Earle’s “If You Need a Fool,” David Olney’s “Queen Anne’s Lace,” Ola Belle Reed’s “High on a Mountain,” and Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup’s “That’s Alright Mama.”
