January Fifth
I put Christmas away for another year
No more angels or stars or talk of good cheer
It’s January fifth and they’re not welcome here
Put the tree by the curb and they hauled it away
And the stores are all stocked for Valentine’s Day
And tired old love songs are all that they play
And the air is cold and the skies are grey
Why did Christmas have to go away?
Now Christmas is boxes stored on a shelf
And the movies and TV laid off every elf
Everybody’s gone home and I’m here by myself
Soon we’ll talk and we’ll say how the holidays flew
And red and green will make room for blue
And the only thing left will be bills that are due
And the air is cold and they skies are grey
Why did Christmas have to go away?
I know Christmas will come round again
I’ll see my family and faraway friends
But it’s a long time, might as well be a lifetime, until then
