Christmas Wishes
Written by Art Podell and Randy Sparks, this song was originally recorded by Canadian artist Anne Murray in 1981 on her first Christmas album by the same name.
Chrissie grew up listening to the Firestone Christmas compliation albums. Every year a new record came out, and she would stack them up on the old record player in the coat closet and listen for hours, mesmerized by the lights of the tree and the warmth of the fireplace in her Pennsylvania home. She remembers hearing this song as a child, and being somewhat of a romantic and an optimist, she always loved it.
As an adult who began providing Christmas music for events and parties, she wanted to find this song again, but it was in the early days of the internet and difficult to locate as it was not one of the most well-known songs of the season. But she managed to get a copy and learn it. Most people in the audiences had never heard the song and she was happy to share it. She knew if she ever recorded a Christmas CD, she'd have to include this song to share with the world such a beautiful sentiment.
As they were planning the CD, the Better Halves weren't sure what instrumentation to use on this particular song. Chrissie was visiting fellow musician Annie Benjamin in Dallas and was excitedly talking about the upcoming album. When she mentioned "Christmas Wishes", Annie exclaimed, "I love that song!" Chrissie had never met anyone else who even knew the song, and with shivers she immmediately asked, "Would you play flute on it?" Annie agreed wholeheartedly and so this version of the song came to be.
