A Christmas Disaster
The most disastrous Christmas of my memory
Curiosity got the best of me
The day grew close, the house I explored
I found the secret closet where the presents were stored

I turned the key, opened the door
Boxes in wrapping were stacked on the floor
I put the key back up on the shelf
Wondering if my dad was really an elf

Chorus:
It was a Christmas disaster, I was just being a kid
No one ever mentioned the naughty thing that I did
It was a miracle, on Christmas Day
The presents showed up anyway

The next night I decided to take another peek
Down the stairs, up the hall, to the door I did sneak
I tried to open it, but to my shock
The key broke off right inside the lock!

(Chorus)

On Christmas Eve from behind the bookshelf
I spied on my dad, who was tall for an elf
The door would not open, I was sure he’d be mad
He’d figure out it was me being bad

He opened a tool kit from under the tree
Undid the hinges and pulled the door free
He laughed softly and then shook his head
As I tiptoed away and slipped back into bed
