Sunday in church as we started to sing, an old man walked in , he sat right
next to me
His clothes were all tattered, shoes full of holes, I wondered how long he’d
been without food
He looked like a drifter or a stranger in town, I couldn’t recall if I’d seen
him around
Maybe his home was some alley he’d found , or maybe the mission on the
far end of town
For some reason I couldn’t stop staring at him, his face had a glow, from
the strength deep within
I tried to imagine why he looked so worn, after all of the years of facing
life’s storms
His hands started trembling as he raised his head, and who we stop
singing , he stood up and said
Our Father has gone to build just for me, a mansion in heaven for I still
believe
Said that he’d go to prepare me a place, where I won’t be homeless
because I have faith
Down here I’ve had nothing, slept in the rain, I’ve been without food but I
still don’t complain
I lost everything for the bottle was strong, but Jesus forgives us , when we
have sone wrong
And I’ll soon be with him , and it won’t be long
I’m going home , I’m going home
I set amazed at the story he told, and the tears that ran down his cheeks
touched my soul
They all called him Matthew, I called him sincere, I’s seen nothing like I’m
in all of my years
His mansion is ready and there he can stay, for they buried Matthew just
yesterday
I know he’s happy since he’s over there I’ll be Ol Matthew has new shoes
to wear, ewww
