My Daddy’s Mountains

I remember when I was a little girl it was summer
And school was out
Mom & Dad & 8 kids in a station wagon
US 23 south was the route
That led us to ol’ Kentucky the place my daddy loved
And the mountains that seemed to touch the stars and
The heavens above
My daddy’s mountains are tall and wide
And stand with heritage and pride
They held the homes of friends and family he loved
Tucked away in the trees
Filled with a blanket of memories
My daddy’s mountains …feel like home to me
The Appalachians beautiful and green
Took him miles back in memory
He would just smile and shake his head
When he would think about
His old home place his mom and dad and childhood days
And the mountains that took him back to the place
Where he was born and raised
The road that took him back filled him with such joy
For in my daddy’s mind he went home as little boy
