Re: hate crimes against African-Americans
"We must remember, we must not forget," sing Sweet Honey's members, detailing a mostly downhill rollercoaster of anti-black hate crimes throughout US history.
Liner notes:
"Sankofa: a word in the Akan language of Ghana, West
Africa, that translates as “reach back and get it”; “san”(to return); “ko” (to go); “fa” (to fetch, to seek and take). Our heritage is so rich; this is one of the many stories not to be forgotten. Along with the New Orleans Race Riot of 1866, the East St. Louis Massacre in 1917, the Chicago race riots of 1919, the Rosewood Massacre of 1923; from the riots of the 1960’s and 1970’s, the Philadelphia bombing of MOVE in 1985 to Ferguson and Baltimore . . . Sankofa."
