The Living Waters
Track 2
Aisha Kahlil: lyrics, music, arrangement
Lead vocals: Aisha Kahlil

RE: water pollution
Against a bubbling underwater background of murmuring vocals and faint percussion, lead singer Aisha Kahlil laments that (as her liner notes describe) "We are already living in a world where there is not enough water for the population to sustain life, and soon there will be no more oceans or seas where we and our children can swim and enjoy the healing, living waters without extreme peril. This is what we created."
Liner notes:
"I am a water child. In Jamaica, the fishermen there call me “the mermaid.” Dancing in the fresh waters in Jamaica of the river, sea, and the blue lagoon, while watching the fishermen with their fresh catch from those crystal waters, I was even more deeply impressed by the immense wealth all around me – the supreme value of the living waters. The impending reality of the consequences of what we have done to our most valuable resource frightens me and wakes me up at night. We are already living in a world where there is not enough water for the population to sustain life, and soon there will be no more oceans or seas where we and our children can swim and enjoy the healing, living waters without extreme peril. This is what we created. Shed a tear. (And when there is no more water, nor fertile soil with which to grow bread, the ones who profited thereby will realize they cannot drink diamonds nor eat gold.)"
