Light The Candle
Verse 1
At the bar I like to frequent, there’s a custom they still do
Placing candles on the tables, for the couples and folks to use
To call the waitress, her name’s Mary, over to them for drinks and beers
They light these candles and Mary comes to them to take their orders and bring good cheer.
Chorus 1 (And, she says....)
Light the candle and I’ll be there to get you all you’ll need tonight
When I see that flame dance and flicker, I’ll know you need me and then it’s alright
Light the candle when you think of me and I’ll suddenly appear
No matter what you’re feeling, light the candle and I’ll be near.
Verse 2
Now, Mary she’s a looker, and I’ve had my eye on her
I know that she’s a good woman, and I know that she’s been hurt
Her man left her for another, I’d like to help her ease the pain
I wish she’d light a candle for me and then I’d tell her in words so plain.
Chorus 2 (Hey, Mary.....)
Bridge
Well, tonight I’m gonna tell her, she’s got to know how she makes me feel
And I’ll light a candle for her, and I’ll give her a candle to light for me.
