Aunt Lilly's Song
Aunt Lilly’s Song

It’s twelve o’clock in the hotel room, I hear the church bells chime
They sing a tune that takes me back into another time
A time when life was sweeter then, a place where I belonged
Sitting with my cousins in my grandpa’s swing and hearing aunt Lilly’s song

She sang about the church, the lord and Jesus
Talked about right and what is wrong
And told about loving all the people
In a life that don’t last long….But from there it looked so long

So many days I’ve gone without love or peace of mind
It seems that I’ve known every way that life can be unkind
But resting here I comfort in a very simple thing
Remembering all my cousins on my grandpa’s porch and the way aunt Lilly sang

She sang about Moses on the mountain
Talked about Joshua and his walls
Told about the mighty strength of Sampson
When he made the temple fall
I was getting high on just believing and setting my soul free
And I knew the lord was watching over me

Her song was like a lullaby , the words so very sweet
Could make me laugh or make me cry or cradle me to sleep
But years have passed and many days tween me and that porch swing
But still it takes my cares away remembering Aunt Lilly sing

Singing bout the church, lord and Jesus
Talking bout right and what is wrong
And telling bout loving all the people
In a life that don’t last long….And from here it ain’t so long
