These Five Fingers

I work all day for an honest wage
Drivin in the rain and through the rage
Of her leavin me alone
At a truck stop I’ll drink a few
2 fingers of some homemade brew
Checking for calls on my go phone

When I get home I’ll go to bed
And take care of my achin head
No sounds of life ever stirrin around

I get the kids every now and then
In a game of live where no one wins
It’s hard to stand up when you’re getting knocked down

Chorus
Lookin in the rearview at a life that just passed by
Searchin for the answers to when, how, and why
All I have are memories that just seem to linger
Ain’t nothin’ left to count on ‘cept these five fingers

Back to work one more time, keepin this truck between the lines
And her memory still seems to linger
Holding on with these steady hands, out here by myself again
Counting on each steady grip of these five fingers
Bridge
I sat beside you every day in school
And we learned about the golden rule
And you taught me how to count on these five fingers
Adding up all the rites and wrongs looks like we’re all even
I’ll keep on drivin this truck, and never stop believing

I need to wash an old memory down fast, bartender give me another glass
Make it a double, 4 fingers
Ain’t but one thing to make this all feel rite
I need to hold her in my arms tonite
But all I’ve got is a glass in these five fingers
Chorus
Lookin in the rearview at a life that just passed by
Searchin for the answers to when, how, and why
All I have are memories that just seem to linger
Ain’t nothin’ left to count on ‘cept these five fingers

End/ Give me a bottle hoss, all I’ll be holding tonite is a glass in these 5 fingers
