A Voice I Used To Know
“Voice I Used to Know” ©2014, Sharon Glassman BMI

In the middle of the morning,
In the little middle gap ‘tween here and there,
I hear something that sounds somehow
Like someone from way back where.
Crazy, yes it’s crazy,
But it sounds just like a voice I used to know.
And I’d like to stay and listen.
But the train is pulling in.
I’ve got to go.

Chorus:
But there’s a chance, a chance inside these changes.
There’s a dance inside the dance.
Happenstance? What’s really strange is,
It’s sounding like someone I used to know.

In the downtown of a subway
Underground town where the sun won’t ever shine,
I hear a calling falling
In the click-clack of the soundtrack, right behind.
Hazy, yes I’m hazy,
But it sounds just like a voice I used to know.
And I’d love to stay and listen.
But the train is moving on.
I’ve got to go.

Chorus

The world is walkie-talking.
Ink and chalking, ‘til there’s just one way to go.
You reach the gate, you board the flight.
The stars turn on, the ocean waves hello.
Amazing, yes, amazing,
But it sounds just like a voice you used to know.
And you’d like to stay and listen,
But the plane is flying fast.
You’ve got to go.

Chorus
