Wounds
Beat up and run down, swallowed in darkness
I hear your voice far away
Sooner or later we suffer the harm that
Will sum up and end all the pain

In that day though you cannot see my face
You may know me by my wounds
By the wounds that I’ve suffered and the scars that have appeared
By the blood still streaming from the damage yet to heal
In that day you may know me by my wounds

Then over the river, after my journey
May my soul find its way to that place
Where now among many lost strangers returning
I’ll hope to be found and embraced

In that day though you may not recognize my face
You may know me by my wounds
By the wounds that I’ve suffered and the scars that have appeared
But the traces of blood in the damage yet to heal
In that day you may know me by my wounds

Some faraway morning, trumpets a blazing
When joy makes the mountains to shake
Truth starts to swelling, sad things melt away
And I’ll shine with the radiance of day

In that day, though you cannot look upon my face
You may know me by my wounds
By the wounds that I’ve suffered and the scars that have formed
By the golden light now streaming from the pain that’s been transformed
In that day you shall know me by my wounds
