Biography
Nu-Blu was founded in the fall of 2003 by husband and wife team, Carolyn and Daniel Routh and joined by the talented Levi Austin and Kendall Gales. Carolyn, on bass, provides her trademark lead vocals with impressive clarity and vocal range. Daniel, on guitar, brings his songwriting and vocal talents to the group. The two young guns, Kendall Gales on mandolin and Levi Austin on banjo and vocals, fill out the ranks providing the band with a solid and talented backbone.

Through the years, Nu-Blu has worked hard to develop a group that would give the listener a diverse experience. By mixing original and traditional material along with incorporating songs from other genres, Nu-Blu has certainly created a unique and driving blend of music that keeps audiences coming back for more.

In October 2009, Nu-Blu signed with Pinecastle Records, but unfortunately several months later, the label closed before the band’s new album, “NIGHTS,” could be released. Due to fan requests for the album, Daniel and Carolyn decided to self-release the project in May 2010 along with the first single release, “Spin on the Red Brick Floor.” Radio immediately welcomed the album as evidenced by its debut at #10 on the Euro Americana Chart, reaching as high as #7 on the Roots Music Bluegrass Report, and spending more than 5 weeks on the Americana Music Associations Top 40 chart as an indie release. Media and other sources were on board with this new group as evidenced by the incredible number of quotes and reviews for this new band and their debut album. Nu-Blu received more recognition and again widening their fan base when they were awarded “2010 Country Band of the Year” by the Carolina Music Awards.

2010 continued to be a landmark year for the band with the September 2, 2010 announcement by Pinecastle Records that the label had been purchased and was beginning operations again, and Nu-Blu would be the first artist signed to the “new” Pinecastle label. On November 22, 2010, a new single was released, “Christmas in Dixie,” a cover song made famous in the 80’s by Alabama. Just a few short weeks later, the song hit #1 on the Airplay Direct Top Bluegrass Album Chart. Stay tuned for more exciting news from Nu-Blu and what is surely to be yet another memorable year.
