"Moon Dreams" Studio Album Press Release from Scott Cooley Records
Newly-established independent label Scott Cooley Records is pleased to announce its first music album release, Moon Dreams, by solo artist Scott Cooley. A follow up to the now cult classic Homegrown in 2002, and his self-titled debut Scott Cooley from Cool Breeze Records in 2000, this record will please existing fans of the Scott Cooley sound, once again delivering original acoustic rock songs with great power. It may round up some new appreciators as well, since it delves into the celestial realm with a more bluesy sound than his past efforts.

Scott Cooley hails from the great state of Michigan, and among his influences are famous songwriters from his home state such as Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, and garage rockers Question Mark and the Mysterians, to name a few. His music combines acoustic guitar blues with the raw, amateurish, unrehearsed and naïve quality of garage rock. You might even hear that one of Scott’s favorite records is The Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd on this album.

The self-released, full-length album offers escapism in the form of “space rock” that features warm, emotional vocals which deliver stories of love and getting away from it all that leave you looking at the world with an improved perspective. This far out music mixes real experiences with dreams, and together, they will put you in a dreamy mood that can take you away for awhile. Best listened to with a good set of headphones, the moon, sun and stars play prominent roles in songs delivered with left-right panning that is out of this world.

Strictly an internet release, no touring is planned in support of the new album. Free preview streaming is available on Scott’s MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/scottcooley), where the new songs are experiencing numerous plays daily. CDs can be ordered directly from the artist’s website (http://www.scottcooley.com/store).

Lakeside Landing - Scott Cooley Album Press Release
New from micro netlabel Scott Cooley Records is the second full album release from solo artist Scott Cooley entitled Lakeside Landing. Officially hitting web retail outlets on June 21st, 2006, the follow-up to Moon Dreams doesn’t so much take things up a notch as go in a new direction. This time sailing a course for summertime fun, it is a much more sunny album than its darker predecessor, changing tack from blues to blue skies.

Great Lakes-oriented acoustic rock at its best, this contemporary maritime marvel delivers unique tales of love and wanderlust with hints of Caribbean flavor that will leave you yearning to get back out on the water soon. Scott’s better half Lenore makes guest appearances on keyboard, marimba and vocals to expand the basic guitar/bass/drums sound of past releases.

Singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Scott Cooley defies convenient categorization, and Lakeside Landing makes it even more difficult. Balancing elements of Hawaiian, instrumental surf rock, reggae, traditional folk balladry, rock, and modern sea shanty, Scott uses all acoustic instruments and different vocal styles to blend subject matter with a common theme – that of having fun and not taking life too seriously. One fan said about the title track “the softness of the song is very tranquil…and (the album) was great to listen to all the way through.”

Another fan reported this about the song “Mackinac Island,” which has enjoyed a surging popularity on the web: “This is awesome…I was listening to it and my friend overheard and made me send him the link. Now all my friends are singing it. My boyfriend even sang it to me on the couch last night.” A cautionary word is in order about this song, and that is that it contains a single explicit word which is repeated throughout the tune – but trust us, if you ever visit the real place it’s about, you’ll understand why it was absolutely necessary.

Scott has many songs to his credit, and although his performance schedule has intentionally been cut back, there is no doubt songs from this album will be featured in future shows. At one recent live performance, Scott unintentionally experienced the entire crowd singing along to Mackinac Island, which was followed by almost unanimous applause, and then numerous kind compliments afterward.

Scott Cooley Releases New Album, Drive Time Companion
EAST LANSING, MI June 21, 2008 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Scott Cooley Records is proud to announce a new record album of outstanding original acoustic rock and roll compositions entitled Drive Time Companion. Currently being offered to those in the music industry who might want to help expose his songs, non-performing songwriter Scott Cooley has self-released this, his fourth major record album, Drive Time Companion, and the third release on his independent label known as Scott Cooley Records. Based in Michigan, Scott's songwriting has garnered awards such as an honorable mention in the Billboard Song Contest.

About the album, Scott said, "To toot my own horn so to speak, you will enjoy primarily positive, occasionally humorous, always clever and purely fictional stories and conversations that provide unique twists on subjects of love and relationships in the form of mostly uptempo acoustic rock songs…with enough variety to hold your attention for 49 minutes or so. The most common theme I had in mind when I wrote these songs was that I intended the album as a whole to be good for keeping you company while you're on the road. Maybe listening will let you relax during a stressful rush hour commute, or remind you of a happy place where there's not too much traffic, where you can take it slow, and wherever you go seems familiar to you. With each listen, you'll likely be pleasantly surprised to discover new nuances you didn't before. Aside from getting you through some tough times, you might also find a good time to play this is when you're ready to party, or maybe even when you're making a getaway from the everyday grind and heading up north. Whatever your journey or state of mind, this CD is always available to perk you up like a good cup of coffee."

This is yet another strong offering and addition to his growing catalog of promotional compilation discs (considered major demonstration recording LP releases of all original material). Scott's catalog has grown to over 300 songs that are available for publishing/licensing or for artists/bands to record (in most cases, the masters are also available). Other albums previously released include Scott Cooley (2000), Homegrown (2002), Moon Dreams (2004), and Lakeside Landing (2006).

Flint, Michigan-area music journalist Rich Marr had this to say about Drive Time Companion: "...the last song on the CD, Too Close For Comfort, was exceptional and one of Scott's top two or three all-time best songs, and the rest were pretty much all keepers."

Drive Time Companion is available for purchase from several major online music stores, including iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon.com as an MP3 album or individual song track downloads; or by mail order as compact disc in high-quality wave format directly from his Web site. See www.scottcooley.com/store for complete details. Contact Scott at www.scottcooley.com/contact to arrange for a mutually-convenient time for a telephone interview. Consult the pages on www.scottcooley.com for electronic press kit materials that include a wealth of additional information such as high resolution photographs and a detailed biography.

MICHIGAN SONGWRITER RELEASES ANOTHER STELLAR ALBUM OF CATCHY ACOUSTIC ROCK
JUNE 21ST, 2010 (EAST LANSING, MI) -- Take your cool drink and iPod to the hammock and get ready to kick back and enjoy what we’ve come to expect from a Scott Cooley album - (soothing/relaxing melodies w/ deep/intelligent lyrics that effortlessly make your imagination wander); with some pleasant surprises (a Mexican-American song featuring
accordion?). Once again, Scott Cooley Records is pleased to announce the official CD (and digital download) release of a genre-defying album of acoustic rock music with a common theme titled Sense Of Belonging, Cooley’s fourth independent solo release on the label.

• Who: Scott Cooley
• What: the album Sense of Belonging
• When: officially released on June 21, 2010
• Where: recorded at Scott Cooley Recording Studio, released on the Scott Cooley Records label, East Lansing, Michigan, USA
• Why: because it’s what he likes to do
• How: recorded himself at his digital home studio; CDs and MP3s distributed for sale in numerous major online stores including iTunes and Amazon.

“I wrote a lot of songs about the simple joys of life, and after my usual weeding-out process, polished up the best of them as best I could. Listeners will no doubt enjoy the conjuring up of images unique to them, but overall, the common theme is reminding them of what’s important – appreciation of nature, home, family, and love. Even without really paying attention to the lyrical meaning, the music variety alone keeps your attention and allows you to slow down and forget about the everyday world for a half an hour or so,” said Scott about his latest album.

The do-it-all-yourself solo artist, multi-instrumentalist, engineer and producer got a little more help than usual with this album from his wife Lenore Louise Cooley, who co-produced one song, co-wrote one song, sang on a duet, and played accordion on a song. As is usual, however, the album does deliver what you’ve come to expect in terms of the overall sound and instrumentation – prevalent are the catchy grooves, memorable melodies, soothing vocals, acoustic guitar, acoustic bass guitar, well-placed background vocals, understated percussion, occasional slide, harmonica and competent acoustic solos and fills that make you clench a fist, nod your head and say to yourself yeah! as if you’re playing it yourself.

A DIY music fan’s delight, you’ll likely find yourself “hearing” how these would sound if they were re-recorded by your favorite popular artists with the best musicians and in the best studios. If you like artists such as John Denver, James Taylor, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, you’re going to feel a sense of belonging in the world of Scott Cooley album listening, an escape that will take you away to a better place. Announcement: "Cherchez La Femme" Studio Album by Scott Cooley, Released on June 21st, 2012 on Scott Cooley Records, Catalog # SCR05
June 21st, 2012 East Lansing, Michigan. For immediate release - a new release from Scott Cooley Records. Today, Scott Cooley released officially to the public his fifth long-playing record album, which continues his tradition of releasing a new album every two years on his birthday. It is now available for sale in all of the major online stores - Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic, Spotify, and many more. Wherever you buy music, it's there. It's named "Cherchez La Femme" and you can get a CD mailed to you, or you can download the album or even the individual songs as MP3s. Furthermore, you can "stream" it, which means listen to it online, for free on the internet over your computer speakers. That's right - free steaming. To learn all about it, listen to it, and more, details are provided on the album page of this site here: Cherchez La Femme.

About the album, Scott said “it contains 13 songs that I wrote and recorded myself. My lovely wife Lenore played accordion on a couple songs too. I'm proud of it and hope you like it. It's mostly what I would call acoustic rock and roll music. For do-it-yourselfers like me, it's a challenge to get people interested, so the following is additional information I'm providing to convince you to check out my music. I would love it if I was able to gain a larger audience. So if you're at all interested, read on.”

For the same reason you’re interested in Neil Young, you’ll likely be interested in Scott Cooley. For example, we’ve all heard a Neil song before and thought to ourselves things like “if only he’d worked harder on the verse” or “if only he’d fixed those bad notes in that solo” or “if he’d only tried to sing it a little more on key” it would’ve been better...but then you realize it wouldn’t be Neil otherwise, and that’s how we like him – he doesn’t have to be close to perfection for us to get a kick out of listening to his music.

Do you feel like a sucker when you buy some amateurish musician’s CD? If it sucks, you feel like you wasted your money on something. Do you ever feel sort of embarrassed to admit you have some independent, unpopular music in your collection? How often does anyone review your CD collection? Do you really care about these kinds of things, or do you allow yourself the freedom to explore what you want to listen to on your own terms? We thought so.

It’s exciting because when it’s someone you know, it’s just interesting to hear what kind of music they come up with, satisfying your curiosity about how their personality is expressed via music because even if you don't know Scott, if you’re from one of his former (Flint, Grand Blanc, Albion, Vail) or current (East Lansing) stomping grounds, you are going to feel good about supporting a notable resident – or would that be notorious resident?...because it’s a good feeling to own some obscure stuff in your record collection from someone you have some sort of a personal connection with because it’s always gratifying to support your local creative community, and along the way help the arts and culture of your community thrive

It’s somewhat rare to find music created by one person who predominantly writes the songs, sings the songs, plays the instruments, produces, arranges, records, mixes, masters, and designs the artwork packaging - all by himself. It’s a fun and unique listening experience to hear one person’s vision of how a song should be written and recorded in a way that truly authentic and never overproduced with electronics that mask the imperfections. It's often pleasantly surprising to hear what someone with no formal training can come up with on a shoestring budget - there's a raw genuine honesty you don't get from artists who use studio session musicians and professional recording engineers.

When someone asks you if you have any SC music, you can proudly say “yes, I do” and this thereby makes you a member of an exclusive club of people who get the acquired taste aspect, and you’re then qualified and prepared to discuss why you like it with others. It’s entirely possibly to expand your musical horizons and personal listening tastes and work in something new instead of holding so tightly to those perfect Journey albums from the early 80s or whatever – it can be a liberating experience, and you’re never too old to try new things. More opportunities for you to engage include joining the mailing list and immediately getting a free original SC song download; and sharing links to the albums & songs at your favorite online stores with people in your social network…and be cool because of it.

You can allow yourself to use that credit card you’ve been trying not to use this year for a personal item to treat yourself with, which can in and of itself improve your outlook on life. More than any other SC album, this one is about love and is meant to appeal to women more than men, kind of like that white James Taylor greatest hits album you’ve had since the mid 80s. Take part in the excitement and while you’re at it get up to date with the recently re-mastered and re-released entire SC back catalog on CD – buy all five and here’s our guarantee: if you listen to all five and never smile, send your proof of purchase and we’ll personally refund your money!

Used To Be Good Looking (UTBGL) - Scott Cooley Album Press Release
Scott Cooley’s latest record, Used To Be Good Looking, is the 6th studio album he’s self-released on his independent label. Available in CD format from Amazon, and download from iTunes, Google Play, Bandcamp, and Spotify on June 21st, 2014, it contains 14 new original songs. The first half of the record is a little more mainstream, poppy, and commercial with shorter rock songs, whereas the last half finds Scott venturing into longer and more serious songs with hints of jazz, bluegrass, folk, and blues. Fans of the all-acoustic instrumentation, catchy melodies, and outstanding lyrics on his past releases will not be disappointed.
As far as live public performances go, he entertained attendees at Lamb’s Retreat for Songwriters in 2012 at the Birchwood Inn in Harbor Springs as a solo act, and also headlined the annual Schmoopiepalooza Festival in 2013 at Pickerel Lake in northern Michigan as a duo with his lovely and talented wife Lenore on accordion. Scott’s recent experiences leading up to this release have included a few get-togethers with family and friends, a few days spent sailing, a few days spent skiing, walking the new golden retriever, Levi, and regular date nights with Lenore. Essentially a non-performing songwriter and recording artist, Scott wrote and recorded these songs over the course of a few weekends, and an hour or two on a few different weeknights sporadically in his basement “man cave” spare bedroom studio since his last release.
The Scott Cooley band has in the past included wife Lenore as guest studio musician (accordion, keyboard, marimba, flute, background vocals) and spiritual producer Lucky Cooley (sadly, he’s now in dog heaven). This album is different in that on the first 13 songs, there’s no one else on it, but Scott finally convinced Lenore to play right-hand-only accordion on the final track, “Smitten with the Mitten,” and thanks to her contribution, it’s a strong candidate for consideration of being designated as a state song for the state of Michigan. Levi wasn’t quite up to speed yet on production advice, so as a solo artist, one-man band, and do-it-all-yourselfer, Scott wore all hats involved this time, recording himself playing guitar, bass, marimba, harmonica, drums, percussion, and singing the vocals in East Lansing.
Scott’s fan interactions, aside from the aforementioned live performances, have been limited to only one or two announcements on his website, and several posts to his blog about his experiences with songwriting and music recording. One fan chimed in with excitement upon discovering the song Mackinac Island from the 2006 Lakeside Landing album, and her intention to share with her college friends and family members in Michigan, and sure enough, the online MP3 downloads increased for that song again. Another fan reached out to Scott to note that he loved the last album, Cherchez La Femme, and having been on hiatus from being a musician himself, felt inspired to get back into it.

Rest Assured - Press Release
June 21st, 2016 - The independent record label Scott Cooley Records of Michigan is proud to announce the release of solo artist Scott Cooley's 7th studio album, Rest Assured. Containing 13 new original songs, it is a full-length album that is available from Amazon in CD format, as well as in various digital formats in Apple Music, Google Play Music, Bandcamp, Spotify, and many other online music stores.
This album features many of the elements of past Scott Cooley releases - the all-acoustic instrumentation, the high-quality songwriting, and the easy-to-detect garage rock influence. Combined with his signature singing and playing styles, this music is sure to provide existing fans with the fix they've been craving. You'll hear the nice-guy innocence of 50s and 60s rock with hints of 70s and 80s bad-boy rock...only acoustic.
For those who have yet to discover what Scott offers, a line from the opening track, I Take Some Getting Used To, may describe it best as "an acquired taste." Real and human, this blend of alternative rock, folk, blues, and country is true midwestern Americana with unique takes on love, relationships, places and everyday experiences as simple as the joy of getting a Flint-style Coney dog with friends.
Although there are a couple mid-tempo numbers and ballads such as Call Me Crazy, this album has more up-tempo songs than usual - like Hell On Earth which reveals the influence of acoustic punk pioneers Violent Femmes. The faster pace makes for an exciting ride, without temptation to forward to the next track during that first listen. Subsequent listens will let your brain start to take in more of the subtle details of Cooley's craftiness as the adrenaline flows and you begin to decide and then change your mind about which are your favorites.
Cooley's wife Lenore makes a return appearance playing accordion on the almost spooky-sounding zydeco/blues hybrid track Something About New Orleans, and on Good For Me, which reveals a slight polka flavor. Scott dusts off his marimba again for some fine playing on Show Up, a song about the internet's affect on relationships. His harmonica is more subdued than usual as a background rather than solo instrument on the opening track as well as on No One To Call, the lone classic-country twanger on the album, while on Whatever Floats Your Boat, the solo is there in a return to the nautical theme prevalent on the Lakeside Landing album.
Less bluesy and serious than his last album, Used To Be Good Looking, Rest Assured places more focus on fun and love songs, which makes it more like his fifth album Cherchez La Femme, although Where There's Smoke is a notable exception delivering an environmentalist message with a Native American vibe.
The short-but-satisfying acoustic solos can be heard throughout, some featuring the slide guitar style on acoustic lap steel. The percussion ranges from simple brush-on-snare with djembe, to tambourine, bongos, cymbal, shaker, and even washboard. Handling all of this himself, along with the signature sound of acoustic bass guitar and nicely blended background vocals, makes the album yet another truly do-it-all-yourself effort.
Perhaps more than anything, the most appealing thing you get with this album, just like with all Scott Cooley albums, is the sincere attitude and perspective. Whether it's sad or humorous, complaining or celebrating, it's nothing if not brutally honest. Hearing his take on things, his interpretive view of what he or his characters have experienced and observed, is like having a conversation with an old friend and remembering what a character they were, glad people like them exist in this world, and wishing you could get together more often.

Missing The Boat - Scott Cooley Album Press Release
June 21st, 2018 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE from Grand Blanc: Michigan independent digital record label Scott Cooley Records is pleased to announce the release of award-winning songwriter and solo recording artist Scott Cooley's 8th full-length studio album, Missing The Boat. Containing 13 new original songs, it is available from Amazon in CD format, as well as in various digital formats from Apple Music, Google Play Music, Bandcamp, Spotify, and many more. For those who know the "Jack Johnson of the Great Lakes region" side of Scott (as he was once described), this one packages that up well as opposed to simply having a few of those types of songs interspersed here and there on other albums.
This album's conceptual theme features a more "Buffettesque" quality than recent releases, while delivering what fans expect - great songwriting, the acoustic-instruments- only thing, and the definitive singing and guitar playing styles. A totally individual solo artist effort, everything you hear is a result of Scott acting alone to make his vision a reality, delivering songs that while more on the positive side than usual, still bring you that rebellious attitude and very realistic outlook on life appreciators are often especially delighted by.
For newcomers to Scott's style, this collection of mostly up-tempo Midwest maritime rockers with Caribbean flavor are only slightly tamed by a couple of ballads. As such, in many ways it harkens back to (or is at least reminiscent of) the escapism that can be heard on Cooley's sophomore effort album, Lakeside Landing, released in 2006, which also effortlessly traversed between the nautical and tropical. Without a doubt, it has a similar overall escapist party vibe that is sure to lift your spirits and make you want to get back out on a boat on some water near you soon!
These tracks serve as the bread of the sandwich whose meat is a steady dose of emotions ranging from those you feel in romantic relationships to those you feel with close family and friends...on boats. These songs are obviously written from the perspective of a guy who you would think is in desperate need of (but so looking forward to) a well-deserved vacation, and all the adrenaline that goes with that. Life is never perfect, and this album uses hints of island, beach, and surf music to bring back fond memories of warm places from a cold locale in an almost misery-loves-company way you'll surely relate to and empathize with.
Upbeat acoustic rockers will get you revved up like an electric guitar song would, while the happy mid-tempo Hawaiianish and Jamaicanish tunes employ sounds such as acoustic lap steel slide, marimba and hand percussion to give you a sampling of an important part of the Scott Cooley sound, only this time leaving out the country and punk rock influences in favor of the Calypsonian if you will. The folk hints are certainly still present, however, which almost make these songs sound more like mento than true reggae.
Although quite pleasant and hopeful, buried in these simple, peppy tunes is a slightly subversive ugly-can-be-beautiful thread that serves to make it okay to feel depressed and wish for sunnier days in the course of expressing life's struggles and chaos. As a result, the listener is rewarded with a therapeutic release that will ease the worries of the mind. In turn, hearing about how bad others have it can make you focus on possibility of improving your own plight, so just as the blues can cheer you up, so too can Scott Cooley's unique brand of acoustic garage rock music. There's a freedom in this worldview that can become contagiously encouraging.
Missing is the Lenore Cooley accordion heard on past releases, but making more prominent contributions to the Scott Cooley sound are the increased usage of ukulele and piano blended with the staples of acoustic guitar, lap steel slide, acoustic bass, marimba, harmonica and sparse drums and hand percussion. So what you have is an album that is at once rough (with edgy guitar work, the homegrown DIY approach, and harshly honest lyrical perspectives) and polished (with the introduction of piano and improved effects application and mastering). To sum it up, Missing The Boat holds a place in the Cooley catalog where the fun is cranked to eleven, which is just enough of a dangerous departure from the usual fare to add excitement while still delivering the satiety for those craving the basic elements of the Scott Cooley listening experience they've become accustomed to.

Scott Cooley Records Announces the New Album "Bluebird Days" from Solo Artist Scott Cooley
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE from Grand Blanc, Michigan - Releasing songs from the vault just like setting free birds from cages is the unique thing surrounding the announcement of the release of solo artist Scott Cooley's 9th studio record album, which contains 13 new original songs, and will be available in online music stores on June 21st, 2020.
Bluebird Days is firmly in the acoustic garage rock genre Cooley has helped popularize since the late 80's with traces of folk, blues, funk, punk, psychedelic, reggae, art rock and Americana. Details include the fact that Scott has literally done all of the work on this album himself - writing and arranging the songs, producing the album, singing the vocals, playing the instruments, recording, mixing, mastering, with the only help coming from Scott's late father Richard E. Cooley, who took the cover photograph.
This album gets its title from the fact that there are several songs that fall into one of three categories- they're either 1) about birds or flying, 2) about the blues or feeling blue, or 3) inspired by Scott's past experiences as a ski bum who lived for those sunny days spent skiing after a foot of fresh snow had fallen the night before. The rest sort of fit this theme enough to neatly fill out a full album.
Aside from the title, the next unique thing might be the fact that there are no clear "singles" as this is a collection of castaway candidate songs that were recorded for past projects. Resurrected from the cutting room floor, this is a previously unreleased group of new originals by the award-winning songwriter that originally had the working title of "Leftovers." Bluebird Days will certainly prove to many that the more imperfect, bold, politically incorrect, negative, rebellious, controversial, and uncensored outtakes and rejects are not only pleasant, but preferred!
Just because they haven't been on a record before doesn't mean they aren't already familiar to Cooley's closest fans - many have either been in the live repertoire, or have appeared in some previous state on past bootleg CDs, with the first incarnations of some appearing on cassette tapes in first-take rough draft form - either from live living room jams or 4-track demos shared amongst his earliest appreciators.
Cooley officially started his own independent label back in 2004 and has released a new record every two years - in even numbered years - ever since. Many of these songs were candidates to be released on those albums, but for one reason or another, were shelved. Maybe these misfit songs will appeal to each of us who've felt like misfits at some point in our lives.
Somewhat due to popular demand among those who've heard these tunes before, they're now finally available: "People in my close inner circle have bugged me about releasing some of these almost as much as they've bugged me to record with an electric guitar and drum machine, and although they all feature acoustic guitars and real drums, I've finally caved in to their whim to compile these past weed-outs, which might be more appealing to certain types of fans than others." ~Scott Cooley
Shows planned in support of the new album include a private, annual lakeside festival in northern Michigan. Otherwise, we are unable to confirm any radio play the album will be receiving, and similarly, we're not aware of any forthcoming reviews in well-known publications or on respected websites at this time. Stay tuned to www.scottcooley.com/news for related forthcoming information.

Scott Cooley Records Announces the New Album "Bluebird Days II" from Solo Artist Scott Cooley
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE from Grand Blanc, Michigan - Just as with its predecessor, Bluebird Days, releasing the follow-up album, Bluebird Days II, is another act of setting free previously-caged birds, and the sequel is guaranteed to satisfy those who loved the first. Independent solo recording artist Scott Cooley's 10th full-length studio record contains 13 new original songs, and will be available in online music stores on June 21st, 2022. Complete details: http://www.scottcooley.com/albums/bluebird-days-ii
Bluebird Days II is another mix of the acoustic garage rock, folk punk, and Americana styles Cooley has helped define, revive and sustain respectively since the late 90s, with traces of blues, funk, psychedelic, reggae, and art rock with the unplugged, DIY aesthetic for which he is known. Again Cooley did everything himself - he wrote the songs, recorded himself performing them, etc., with the only assistance coming from Scott's late father Richard E. Cooley, who took the cover photograph, and his lovely wife Lenore who played the accordion on the last track.
Also like the first Bluebird Days, this album gets its title from the fact that there are several songs that fall into one of three categories- they're either 1) about birds or flying, 2) about the color blue or feeling blue, or 3) inspired by Scott's past experiences as a ski bum who lived for those sunny blue-sky days spent skiing after a foot of fresh snow had fallen the night before. The rest sort of fit this theme enough to neatly fill out yet another record in the same vein.
This collection of both new and rewritten/re-recorded versions of older recording project candidate songs that were previously weeded out, includes some that had their beginnings in Cooley's live performance days in Colorado. Those die-hard fans in possession of early 90s live bootlegs and rare, studio cassette tape recordings will already be familiar with and will especially appreciate this previously-unreleased group of new and/or resurrected originals by the award-winning songwriter. Many have either been in the live repertoire, or have appeared in some previous state on past bootleg CDs, with the first incarnations of some appearing in first-take rough draft form - either from live living room jams, open mic nights, with duos & bands, or even 4-track demos shared amongst his earliest appreciators.
This batch will please those who knew a more daring Scott Cooley in his reckless youth, as many prefer the more bold, politically incorrect, rebellious, controversial, blatantly honest and/or uncensored outtakes and rejects and think they are actually among the best songs he has to offer.
Due to popular demand for more of the same by those who heard the first Bluebird Days and insisted many tunes they'd heard before were still unreleased, they're now finally available: "Once people heard the first Bluebird Days album, they wanted more. Knowing several fan favorites still remained unreleased, Cooley dug deeper into the archives to bring new life to many, and in the process, became inspired to write several more along the same lines. This follow-up is another example of giving the people what they want!" ~Scott Cooley
Cooley officially started his own eponymous independent microlabel back in 2004 and has since never failed to release a new record every two years - in even numbered years - of a dozen or so previously-unreleased originals. Maybe these formerly-shelved, misfit songs will appeal to each of us who've felt like misfits at some point in our lives, and in their new, slightly-improved states, do indeed represent the best Cooley has to offer from his own misfit experiences from an arguably misspent youth.
At the time of publication, we are unable to confirm any planned shows, radio play, or forthcoming reviews from well-known and/or respected print or online publications the album will be receiving. Stay tuned to www.scottcooley.com/news for related information as it becomes available.
Press inquiries may be directed to Scott personally via the contact info at top, right of this page. For more information, promo requests or to set up an interview, please feel free to contact Scott directly using any convenient means you prefer at www.scottcooley.com/contact.
