Carousel
Standing in line, I pass the height test
He gives me a look as he tears my ticket
Then through the gate and I’m picking my horse and settling down for the ride
The music box tinker, it’s a little too loud
With a groan, all the steel starts spinning around
I start to smell the diesel as we pick up speed
The colors start blurring in the scenery
This would be so fun it you were with me
This would be so grand if it were more than a memory

The wind’s a little chilly as it hits my face
I’m getting dirty looks from children less than half my age
I don’t have the heart to listen to the things they say
My heart is half a world away
I’m getting kind of sick from all the whirling around
And the motion of my pony going up and down
I think I finally understand why you couldn’t remain
Amidst the crazy spirals that we rode every day
This would be so fun if you were with me
This would be so grand if it were more than a memory

It started fun
Then suddenly it was spinning out of control
You needed time, you needed space, you got off the carousel before the ending came

The ride is slowing down and the music stops
We’re filing into line and now we’re getting off
Walking home alone to an empty apartment
Maybe it’s better that you’re not here
It wasn’t always fun when you were with me
I think I paint a better picture when it’s in my memory

It started fun
Then suddenly it was spinning out of control
You needed time, you needed space, you got off the carousel before the ending came
All things come to an end, I guess I’m living it now
Farewell, all’s well, you stepped off the carousel
