The Ruta Beggars are a Boston-based bluegrass band bursting onto the scene with an electrifying blend of bluegrass and early swing. Combining intricate vocal harmonies, fiery instrumentals, and captivating performances, they appeal to both traditional and progressive acoustic music fans. Since their formation in 2018, The Ruta Beggars have brought their dynamic show to stages across the US and Canada, earning accolades as 2019 Thomas Point band competition winners and 2023 IBMA official showcasing artists. Known for their creative yet tasteful arrangements, they’ve supported legends like Lyle Lovett and Ricky Skaggs, and continue to push boundaries as Freshgrass Foundation commissioned composers and Skyline Records artists. With a lineup of best friends who met through Berklee College of Music's American Roots Program, The Ruta Beggars are making their mark as a compelling force in contemporary bluegrass.

"Taking My Time," is the debut single from Boston-based bluegrass band The Ruta Beggars. Written by lead vocalist and guitarist Micah Nicol, this captivating track merges the band's signature blend of bluegrass and early swing, produced under the expert guidance of renowned bluegrass producer Jim Van Cleve.

"Taking My Time" is not just another song; it’s an exploration of bluegrass history with a modern twist. The track evokes the spirit of classic bluegrass "power-waltzes" like Bill Monroe’s "I Live In The Past," while weaving in haunting elements reminiscent of folk murder ballads such as "The Oxford Girl" (or "The Knoxville Girl," popularized by the Louvin Brothers). According to The Ruta Beggars, "Taking My Time" is their own "turbo three-quarter-time tank," capturing audiences with its intense rhythm and rich storytelling.

As lead vocalist Micah Nicol reflects, "In bluegrass, there's a long-standing tradition of 'power-waltzes.' When we heard Monroe’s work, we knew we needed one of these turbo three-quarter-time tanks in our repertoire. At shows, we challenge our audiences to waltz along to the tune, often leaving them huffing and puffing with a chuckle. 'Taking My Time' is our nod to the Father of Bluegrass and a foray into the murder ballad's vast lore."

The single showcases the remarkable talents of The Ruta Beggars' lineup: Micah Nicol (lead vocals/guitar), Trevin Nelson (banjo), Noah Harrington (bass), Sam Stage (fiddle), and Jean-Baptiste Cardineau (mandolin).
