Song bio: The piece (by Faure for cello and piano, 1893) has always fascinated me with its tonal structure and strong melodic line. The progressions are both classical and “modern”, with very interesting (and musical) transitions. The piece was originally written in ¾ time but I felt the tonal structure could be emphasized if I shifted to 4/4. I also compressed the piece’s length for additional impact, causing things to happen faster and so feel like – musically- your on tips toes. The use of delay provided additional “pulse” and additional coloring (as prior notes linger on top of later notes). Given all this, addition of multiple percussive parts made absolute sense to me. I feel this arrangement is driving yet retains the immediacy and richness of the original.
