Would You Carry Me
Writer: Roger Springer

I USED TO WAIT FOR DAD WITH MY OLE CANE POLE
KNOWING HE WOULD TAKE ME TO OUR FAVORITE FISHING HOLE
IT WAS JUST ABOUT A MILE TO THAT OLE RIVER BED
AND ON THE WAY DOWN THERE, I WAS ALWAYS UP AHEAD

BUT THAT OLE JOURNEY HOME SEEMED LIKED A HUNDRED MILES
UPHILL ALL THE WAY AND I'D KEEP UP FOR A WHILE
DAD WOULD ALWAYS STOP JUST ABOUT HALFWAY
AND HE KNEW WHEN I'D CALL UP, HE WOULD HEAR ME SAY

1ST CHORUS:
DADDY, I'M TIRED
THIS ROAD IS JUST TOO LONG
HOW COME IT SEEMS SO FAR
WHEN WE'RE HEADED HOME
MY CANE IS GETTING HEAVY
MY LEGS ARE JUST TOO WEAK
DADDY, WOULD YOU CARRY ME

BUT THAT WAS YEARS AGO AND EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED
THE MAN THAT USED TO CARRY ME NOW LEANS UPON A CANE
BUT I STILL TURN TO HIM WHEN LIFE GETS ME DOWN
AND WONDERING WHO I'D GO TO WHEN HE'S NOT AROUND

SO JUST THE OTHER DAY, I WALKED UP TO THE HOUSE
STEPPED INTO THE FRONT DOOR... DAD WAS KNELT BESIDE THE COUCH
HE DID NOT HEAR ME ENTER BUT I COULD HEAR HIM PRAY
NOW I LEARNED ANOTHER LESSON WHEN I HEARD HIM SAY

2ND CHORUS:
FATHER, I'M TIRED
THIS ROAD IS JUST TOO LONG
HOW COME IT SEEMS SO FAR
WHEN WE'RE HEADED HOME
MY CANE IS GETTING HEAVY
MY LEGS ARE JUST TOO WEAK
FATHER, WOULD YOU CARRY ME
