Written by former college friend and bandmate Malcolm McKinney, Don't Cry Blue was a huge hit for Jonathan Edwards on his self-titled project in 1971 on Capricorn Records.
Fast forward, 45 years later, Jonathan Edward's touring bass player for several years, Rick Brodsky, joined Rock Hearts.
Rock Hearts lead singer, Alex MacLeod, had an opportunity to open for Jonathan Edwards in 2011 and chose Don't Cry Blue as the song he most wanted to sing with Jonathan because it adhered to the "traditional" sound that he preferred and he really liked the song. Sadly, partly because the gig was at a winery, no one in the audience was able to capture a non-blurry picture of the performance (perhaps too much wine), much to MacLeod's chagrin.
Rock Hearts started to perform the song around the time that Brodsky joined Rock Hearts and when the band agreed to record the song on their Wanderlust project, their debut project with The 615 Hideaway Record label, Rick reached out to Jonathan to see if he'd be interested in lending his iconic vocals to the recording. Thankfully Jonathan agreed to join in the fun and has since become a dear friend of the group.
