The Last Log Drive
Last Log Drive
By Sam Tidwell

Sometimes I sit and wonder what becomes of the thunder
And why the lighting strikes again
The river is raging my tired body’s aching
I remember what life was like back then

Chorus

Watching them logs roll down the Kennebec river
Sitting on the green grassy hill
In my heart I will ever be sitting by the river
Watching them logs roll to the mill

No noisy trucks on the highway just horses down the byway
Logs roll down the river free and wide
And the old man at the mill, I think his name was bill
Saying come on boys let’s cantdog that hung pile

Now the Kennebec won’t be the same with no logs to fill its main
Cantdogs and the spike-soled boots are gone
And the people on the bank, their expressions will be blank
As they wonder, what the hell is going on.
