From Songwriter, Alex MacLeod: Shortly after returning home to Rhode Island from a 3-month hiatus in Nashville, I was sitting in a local tavern on a Sunday Bluegrass Night. A local band was playing a waltz as I spotted an older gentlemen slowly make his way to the dance floor, where he began to dance by himself.

I noticed other patrons watching and whispering, some even snickering... but God softened my heart at that moment and I was caused to imagine that perhaps there was a bigger story to tell with what was unfolding in front of me. The expression on his face suggested that he was dancing with someone, perhaps a former love that was no longer with him. I thought about how dancing might have been a weekly date and ritual since they were younger. I saw the neon lights and thought about how they might have danced under the stars when they were younger, hence, Starry Southern Nights.

I drove home that night envisioning a mini-movie playing out in my mind, the Lord gave me a melody during that drive and when I arrived home, I put those visions to words and laid down the melody. By 2 am, I had written, Starry Southern Nights.

I'm honored to have been given the song and the lyrics and have been humbled but the sentimentality and positive feedback I've received. It's a human story that folks can relate to. I hope it allows folks to feel and have emotion, recalling happy memories.
