Every Cross
Every Cross
Chad Cates, Robert Larrabee

Traffic backed up on the interstate
Was a really bad wreck in the northbound lane
Police and paramedics on the scene
With all the red and blue flashing lights
Somebody probably died
It was real bad from the looks of things
Same place two days later driving by
The thought goes through my mind

For every cross beside the freeway
There’s a story to be told
Of someone who is hurting and
And needs a hand to hold
So every time I pass one
I remember to pray
For the ones who bear the loss
When I see every cross beside the freeway

When you start to notice things
I think it’s kind of interesting
How many you see when you open your eyes
Flowers, wreaths, and peoples names
Families forever changed
Friends and loved ones only asking why
When I come across one I slow down
And wonder how it came about

People try to find a way to just let go
So they leave behind a symbol of hope
