Piece Of Tennessee
Peace Of Tennessee
A Williams BMI, J Wells SESAC, G Gossett SESAC

Those lamp shades sure look pretty when they were new
Red and yellow striped kept the kitchen bright
And that old dock down on the river
The times when I was hungry
It made sure we had dinner every night

I grew up in a cottage that didn’t have a lot of room
Four beds inside four walls with a door painted blue
That for sale sign in the yard looks good to me
I’m buying back my piece of Tennessee

Daddy lost this house when the foundry shut down
Had to move away from everyone they loved
Momma never was the same
Til the day she passed away
and after that daddy just gave up

I’ve longed to see this place come into view
It looks a bit more weathered than my memories do
I don’t care what it cost give me the keys
I’m buying back my piece of Tennessee

There’s a store my kids can walk to with out fear
We know all our neighbors from here to there
Every time we go fishing on that dock down by the river
If we don’t catch a thing I won’t care

I grew up in a cottage that didn't have much room
With the freedom to run, now my children will too
Take that for sale sign away cause this is where I’ll be
I’m buying back my peace of Tennessee
