Biography
The River Bones Band is from Philly. Our sound is rooted in bluegrass but we bring a modern energy to our exciting originals and diverse standard Americana tunes!
Philadelphia is an aging rust belt metropolis full of dusty corners soaked in history and decaying relics of former industrial grandeur. Its full of people used to showing an unmistakably defiant and independent streak, sometimes even breaking things. A bit of all that probably comes out in our music.
We didn't grow up in an Appalachian mountain holler. We grew up listening to rock and punk and grunge and country and jazz and soul. Pieces of all that seeps into our music. What comes out is not strictly traditional mountain music, though a deep love of the grit and vitality of the original pioneers of bluegrass is what brought us into this music and it inhabits every note we play.
If you are playing bluegrass or Americana or "roots music" or whatever you call it, its probably more important to play music that feels real than to worry about which box to check. And if you are doing it right, it will be a party. So welcome to the party.
