Wounds That Never Heal feat. Jana Mougin
Wounds That Never Heal
Lincoln Meyers/Rick Lang
Along the road that leads to town walked young Molly Bloom
Who taught the children all around, in a two-room school
She courted William Anderson, a handsome lad was he
They married in the village church one morning in the spring
…the 1st day of the spring
It nearly broke poor Molly’s heart when she heard William say
That he was off to join the cause… the Blue against the Gray
In a soldier’s uniform, rifle at his side
She watched as he marched through the town, til’ he was out of sight
...as tears welled in her eyes

Out on a bloody battlefield the 14th of July
A long & sharpened bayonet pierced young William’s side
When the cannons roared no more and the smoke had cleared
Motionless there on the ground, they left him there for dead
..left William there for dead
One day a dreaded letter came, outside Molly’s door
It read that William’s life was claimed by that awful war
She clutched her heart & cried aloud, her pain could not conceal
The wound left by those cold sharp words, time would never heal
...time would never heal

For two long years through countless tears, in solace Molly grieved
Longing for her lover’s voice to keep her company
She moved to town & settled down with a preacher’s son
But Molly’s dreams brought memories of her 1st true love
…of her 1st true love
The sun was bright the afternoon a crippled man appeared
His face one could not recognize behind that ragged beard
As Molly looked into his eyes, she knew it William be
Then opened up those painful scars from wounds that never healed
…wounds that never healed
