Rock of My Ages (2:58)
This is the song that started this whole process. Back in 2018 I was frantically scratching my head trying to figure out what to get my wife Theresa for our 40th wedding anniversary. I was coming up empty but I knew that I would need to find something to mark this significant event in our lives. I then remembered that I had written a song a few years back that would fit the occasion. I had made a rough home recording of the song but didn’t think that would be suitable.
I contacted my old high school friend JK Gulley to see if he would make a professional recording of the song so that I could present it to Theresa on our anniversary. JK and I have been friends since we met in grade 8 way back in 1967. During our high school years JK and I wrote songs together. Although I had figured JK would just record the song with his instrumentation and vocals, he convinced me to do my own vocals to make it a bit more personal. I was a bit hesitant but I figured 40 years only comes around once, so what could it hurt.
Because we lived almost 2,000 km apart, we managed through the magic of the internet to get a recording completed and mixed in time for my anniversary. The gift was a hit with my wife and I’m happy that it turned out so well. This was also the kick in the butt that got this whole album started. JK asked me if I had any more songs kicking around so I sent him a few rough recordings that I had. A couple of weeks later he asked if I’d be interested in putting together an EP or album – and the whole project was born.
I’m hoping that couples find this an appropriate song to play at anniversary celebrations – it was very special to ours.
