New recording of Hurdy Gurdy Man In honor of Donovan's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Raspin, as heard in Starbucks nationwide, is an LA-based artist who primarily performs and records his own music. Rarely performing any songs by other artists, Raspin has played Hurdy Gurdy Man for many years and believes it is part of the integral fabric of both his and the world's musical life. Raspin has chosen to release this recording as a way to share his love of Donovan's contribution to the world and the enduring appeal of his songs.
As the vocal artist chosen to record "Catch the Wind" for the Wonder Years, TV show, Raspin has felt connected and inspired by many of Donovan's songs that have captured our contemporary quest for peace, nature, love and harmony.
Details: This recording is produced by Steve Reid (formerly of the Rippington's, SuperTramp, etc.) and Bo Astrop , Raspin's Music Director.
Raspin's Statement: "I first heard the Hurdy Gurdy Man while listening to the Live in Japan: Spring Tour 1973 record. This version included the verse written by George Harrision:
"When the truth gets buried deep
Beneath the thousand years of sleep
Time demands a turn-around
And once again the truth is found
Awakening the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Who comes singing songs of love."
My version of Hurdy Gurdy Man includes these beautiful words as well. With today's interest in transcendental consciousness and universal love, this song is more relevant than ever since it was written in 1968 to speak to the enlightened consciousness that hippies were seeking then and that so many are seeking now. Donovan has said that the Hurdy Gurdy Man is the one who re-awakens this knowledge. I am so excited that Donovan is finally being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Donovan worked with and/or influenced many great musicians including members of the Beatles. His songs have always spoken to me on a personal level, as well as inspiring me musically."
Raspin is available for interview by phone or in-studio interview in Southern California.
