Coal Miners Lament
I was raised in West Virginia
Coal mining town
In the howler we're everybody knew my name
With coal dust to the black lung
I worked hard everyday
Trying to make a livin, thru the pain

Late to bed early to rise
Coffee before sunrise
Spent most of my day with a pick in my hand
Well the Politicians they don't see
So they try to throw the book at me
And blame everything on this coal mining man

The blood and the sweat
Livin a coal miners death
They've taken all they can
Tryin to take the life of this coal mining man

We Supplied the country with the power
To turn night into day
Didn't take them long to turn their back on me
They shut down the coal mines
Took my paycheck away from me
Tell me how will I feed my family

Seems it's always take and no give
They don't seem to care if I live
Yet still have the nerve to call me free
This country turned against me
Always trying to tear me down
Tell me When did I become the enemy
