Ever since field recordings of old-timey fiddlers and obscure string bands were pressed as fragile 78s, country music has been defined by singles. With the introduction of the jukebox, country music found a permanent home in honky tonks throughout America. A pocketful of change would keep the sonic salvation flowing.
