Music Duo Recognized for Their Quarantine Efforts Towards Community
Salem, Oregon residents Tim and Kathy Crosby worked hard during 2020 to give their neighbors, family, and friends something to smile about. Both are award winning professional musicians who saw the pandemic as a new opportunity to reach out and make a difference.

Although Kathy took a six-month break from teaching piano in person, Tim immediately moved his private lessons online. Having performed a “Tuesday Studio Tune” for years on their Facebook feeds, they expanded that to virtual concerts across a variety of platforms. They performed concerts from both their front porch and their back deck for neighbors. Being quarantined finally gave Kathy time to set up the website she had always wanted to showcase the variety of talents the couple embrace beyond performance. An opportunity arose to tour with a group that focuses on taking music to areas generally ignored by traveling entertainers – the Crosby’s grabbed their masks and hand sanitizer and joined in. Their duo, Phoenix, was invited to perform in virtual listening rooms hosted by various organizations across the United States.

Professionally, it was an exceptionally good year.

The Josie Music Awards, an event created to celebrate those in the independent music industry, noticed. Not long ago the Crosby’s were notified that they were among a short list of artists nominated in the Duo of the Year category for this year’s awards, to be held in Dollywood on September 18, 2021.

The Josie Music Awards is a brand of The Josie Network, LLC owned by the highly respected partnership team of Josie Passantino and Tinamarie Passantino. This team set out and successfully created an award show where winners are selected on their talent, skill, material, professionalism, and more and NOT by button pressing voting. Nominee suggestions go through a lengthy review process by a team of industry leaders and the official nomination list is created from their final decisions.

The Josie Music Awards celebrates all genres, which is important to Tim and Kathy Crosby as they have always enjoyed performing outside their chosen area of acoustic music.

“Just being exposed to different ideas and styles of music expands what you might bring into your own writing, styles and performance.” exclaimed Kathy Crosby. “Once you really get to know a heavy metal artist or talk social justice with someone who raps, your perception of life will change, and you will become a better person for it.”
