Appalachian Sleigh Ride
Appalachian Sleigh Ride

Christmas morning memories come stirring with the snowfall
My mind goes to the mountains and to my Grandma Nell's
She bundled us in blankets, me and baby sister
My brother'd bring bring the horses round
And harness up their bells

Grandpa'd load the wagon with country hams and homemade pies
and Daddy'd bring his banjo and Mom her mandolin
Then off to town we'd jingle behind old Bob and Molly
A gift for every neighbor of Grandma's homemade jam

When we came down from the mountain
The horses hooves went clip clop clip
Down from the mountains
Our noses cold and spirits high
Down from the mountains
The old church bells rang ding dong dig
And Appalachian Christmas is my favorite Christmas memory

We'd glide into the village with frozen fingers, frozen toes
But never was my heart so warm or spirits quite so bright
Then off to church on Sunday, sing Silent Night, oh, Holdy Night
A gift for Baby Jesus of Grandma's homemade pie

When we came down from the mountain
The horses hooves went clip clop clip
Down from the mountains
Our noses cold and spirits high
Down from the mountains
The old church bells rang ding dong dig
And Appalachian Christmas is my favorite Christmas memory

The horses hooves went clip clop clip
Down from the mountains
Our noses cold and spirits high
Down from the mountains
The old church bells rang ding dong dig
And Appalachian Christmas is my favorite Christmas memory
