Dollar For The Causeway
Well the kids can't go to school
'Cause the gym has burned down
I've been played a fool
'Cause he has skipped town
With our car and our money
And I know he doesn't care
Mama's sick in Metairie
And I can't be there

Darlin' won't you lend me
A dollar for the causeway
Watch the kids while I'm gone
I won't be more than a day
Life can throw a curve
And you need a straight highway
Darlin', a dollar for the causeway

Well I borrowed a phone cause mine was turned off
And found that mama was low
I knew I had to do it
Had to find a way to go
So I called my great Aunt Ella
Who raises chickens in Abita Springs
I told her the situation
She opened her purse strings

Darlin' I will lend you a dollar for the causeway
And watch the kids while you're gone
I don't see 'em enough anyway
I'll pick 'em up in my old Chevy truck
I'll call Uncle J
He can give you a lift across the causeway

Well I never dreamed that they'd be so kind
But then why was I surprised
I would do the same for anyone
And it really opened my eyes
Made that journey and mama recovered
And we all had a great holiday
Thanksgivin' with the kids, Aunt Ella and Uncle J

So darlin' if you need a dollar for the causeway
Just reach out and ask, someone will throw it your way
Life can throw a curve
When you need a straight highway
Darlin' a dollar for the causeway
I said darlin' a dollar for the causeway
