Memories of You
A good friend of mine and a great musician, Eric Burton, died suddenly in an auto accident. His two closest friends rounded up all his old demo tracks, lovingly (and often painfully) extracted the vocals from them, rounded all his friends and recorded all the tracks in his memory. I was honored to play on one of those tracks. That experience really got me thinking. This song isn't a sad song at all, even though it's written from the point of view of the friends that have to figure out how to go on after such a loss. It's a celebration of the positive impacts we have on each other's lives and what friendship is all about.

I decided to make the saddest subject on the whole album be one of the lightest and most upbeat song on it. That's kind of how I am. In the middle of writing this tune, I lost my father. That really shook my life up. The bridge of this number was really shaped by my feelings at the time with that loss. I do manage to bring back a smile though when I end that section with a reference to Eric's signature clove cigarette. I even manage to channel my inner-Freddie Mercury for a moment or two in doing so!
