The River
It's sort of funny that the heaviest song on the album is also the most spiritual. I grew up in a religious family and was always taken with the allusions of water that are used in many southern gospel hymns. Laying down your burdens at the riverside, crossing over the Jordan, being washed clean all lend to this. I must admit, I have lived near the ocean all my life, and there is power there. I took those themes and mixed in a concept of simply having someone to come home to, someone to care for you and lighten the load. Our daily lives are struggles. We all have a need for that bit of comfort and peace.
Mark Slaughter's lead guitars and harmony's are driven by a funk-and-roll rhythm section. All my musician buddies love this track!
