Trying Not To Cry
Has an R.E.M. meets Chris Isaak feel.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG: Michael Bonagura asked to write on the 3rd day of my first weekly trip out to record this CD. I pulled out my notes I so dutifully organized for this chance to write with a number one songwriter. I went through a few verses on a song I wrote called TRYING NOT TO CRY. My version was from a battered spouse, but didn’t really have a good picture yet. Michael looked out the window and told me about a couple he knew where the guy broke up with the girl. He said “what if we wrote HIS side of the story.” Before we knew it we were off and running with it-high fiving each other with every new line. I ended up drawing from a personal experience where I knew it was time to move on from the relationship, it is very hard to be the one who has to call it, because we always get labeled as the ‘bad guy’. This song hopefully gives a new insight for the ‘bad guy’.
