Greyhound 89
GREYHOUND 89
Written By Matt Ellis

Thinking back now I was just 15
on a greyhound bus with the american dream

It was 3000 miles of coast to coast
I was riding shotgun with my childhood ghosts
On the open road, is where I let them go

Right around then well it all came to change
or was I just seeing more, coming of my age

I met this guy, he'd just gotten out
He told me about Skynyrd he was down, not out
Said he turned it around, was gonna make her proud

Seeing and believing in a different time
Somewhere round the middle of 89
Riding West to East down the crooked line
Seein’ it all from the other side
when I caught the line for the first time

You taught me to swing, taught me to hurt
Showed me how we all come from the dirt

I was giving it all when hell came to pass
And I promised you then I was gonna make it last
But I forgot to ask, why it goes so fast

Seeing and believing in a different time
Somewhere round the middle of 89
I was riding West to East down the crooked line
Seein’ it all from the other side
I was on the line for the first time
