Momma's Prayer Beads
Momma’s Prayer Beads
@Rick Lang/Haley Anna Music, BMI
We gathered round our old kitchen table
A few months after momma passed away
To sort through what remained of her possessions
A look of sadness showed on every face
I opened up the box that lay before me
Something that she’d wanted me to have
I let out a sigh, as I looked down to see
Momma’s wooden prayer beads lying there
*CHORUS
When I think back on all my childhood memories
There’s one that still stands out from all the rest
When Momma talked to Jesus down upon her knees
With those tiny prayer beads in her hand….
With those tiny prayer beads in her hand
I recall that we went through some hard times
When dad was out of work in ‘52
Momma would take out those wooden prayer beads
And tell us that her faith would see us through
The hardest thing to face our family
Was when our younger brother lost his life
Momma held those prayer beads oh so tightly
Each night as she’d sit alone and cry
*CHORUS
When I think back on all my childhood memories
There’s one that still stands out from all the rest
When Momma talked to Jesus down upon her knees
With those tiny prayer beads in her hand….
With those tiny prayer beads in her hand
