Sinners' Bench - Going Home

Sinners’ Bench brings a folk twist to traditional hymns, creating a new sound filled with old memories. This strong focus on discovering new ways of worshipping became the band’s goal: “We hope audiences find a unique way of looking at their relationship with God through our music,” explains Jeremy King, the band's guitarist and producer. “It's not going to be the same old hymns that granny sang, but it might sound close.”

Songs such as “Crossing Deep Waters” do just that. An acoustic melody that begins with lead vocalist Lindsay Passmore and banjo player Shawn Rhodes, the song builds lyrically and melodically by adding additional instruments for a powerful effect. Along with Matt McMillan and Johnny Brown, the five person band plays autoharp, banjo, guitar, bass, mandolin, fiddle, percussion, and washboard- the perfect combination for that bluegrass, country, Americana sound.

Playing their music in churches throughout the South helped form the unique perspective that is central to their music and message. “At the core,” Jeremy says, “we all have our own unique relationship with God that we want explore.” He further explains the band's goal: “to bring in sounds and lyrics that are new and and fresh to ‘traditional’ music and essentially confront our audiences with a new idea, or at the very least, a new way of presenting an older truth.”
