Without Your Warmth
Release Sept 2015. Order at kenchapple.com/ctb
The lyrics and music are delicate, yet dark. The pulse is driving, but the chorus and instrumental interludes are twisted around a groove in 7/8 time. The use of odd time signatures is not common in bluegrass, but I think it really works in the context of the song. The song is about two young lovers who move up into the mountains. The young girl hears a rumor from town that her man is running around. Despite the fact that the rumor is NOT true, she takes it to heart. She locks herself inside the cabin and kills herself, while her man is trapped outside in what will become his wintery grave.
