Damn Near Died Today
It’s a dangerous world out there, and you never know when your number might be up. Death will always get the last laugh, but we can all have one hell of a party while we’re still alive and kickin’. That’s the message from independent country singer and songwriter John Ward Hocter in his digital single debut, “Damn Near Died Today,” now available for streaming and purchase on all major online music platforms.

Recorded at Earthwork Studio in downtown Newark, Ohio, the high-energy track features a cavalcade of everyday dangers, disasters, and deadly possibilities, as well as an accomplished cast of world-class contributors including hall-of-fame fiddler Michael Cleveland.

“It’s a fun song about death,” said Hocter about the single. “We all have to go sometime, so you might as well make the most of the chance to let loose and go a little wild whenever you’re able. For me personally, this particular moment has been a long time coming, so I’m just grateful for the opportunity and excited for everyone to hear what we put together.”

Produced by Brandon Bankes, the track features Michael Cleveland on fiddle; Scott Vestal on banjo; Katie Blomarz on upright bass; Caleb Gilbreath on drums; Sam Tuten on backup vocals; and Bankes on pedal steel.
