As Is
As Is
By John Lilly

I was 18, in the market for a car, a cheap dependable ride,
Wanted 30 on the road, 25 in town, pin-stripes down the side;
So I took $700 on down to the dealer and told him what I had in mind,
He said, “Son, this old Yugo is the best that we got,” and he smiled and pointed to the sign:

CHORUS
“As is, as is.
“You can leave it or take it, it is what you make it
“There are no guarantees, what you get is what you see,”
This car came to me “as is.”

I drove that old Yugo straight off of the lot and filled her up with premium gas,
Bought a set of wrenches and a timing light, put and angel on the dash;
Installed a manual choke and I fixed her when it broke with baling wire and twine,
Five years later I sold it for a thousand, and I still had that old sign:

To CHORUS

BRIDGE
I went to school in that old car back when she was mine;
And I hold those lessons in my heart and I hang on to that old sign:

“As is, as is.
“You can leave it or take it, it is what you make it
“There are no guarantees, what you get is what you see,”
Life comes to you and me “as is.” (2x)
